As far as I can tell:

Trap - Guy who dresses as girl, and LOOKS like a girl
CD - Guy who dresses as a girl but is still manly

I think, That's how it is, Anyhoo we love them both ;P

I always figured:

Trap- guy who could be mistaken for girl (androgyny)
CD- guy who likes to dress distinctly like a girl (no surgery)
Trans- girl born as a guy, still w/penor (surgery)
Trans Postop- girl born as a guy, chopped (surgery)

So... a trap is all natural. The idea is to use what you have. Add more win to win and less fail to fail. The only thing is, not everybody can do this. I was dubbed shadowtrap on failchan when I would post. The tag "trap" is now a generic slang term. I believe it comes from a reference to TG prostitutes as I have heard this before in my early um.... career. Now it is nothing more than a tag for a Cdr, TGr or even a fem guy. A cross dresser is a trap if the do it right. Cross dressing is not as easy as one would think. It's a skill and art that develops over time. Even the most masculine men that have learned to emulate a woman correctly can pass but you could take a young attractive man in his early 20's and see him lose the game painfully. So, a traps goal is to not look "drag" but a drag queen is a professional "trap". You figure it out. If you want to be dubbed a trap the only way to find out is to post. I often post as Shadow out of respect but end up posting as Shadowtrap when my pretend friends are around. Some say the only way to tag yourself trap is with HRT. This is garbage and I know cross dressers who have never taken Estradiol in their late 40's that bury the "traps" that would make such a bold statement.

Cross Dressing has less to do with wanting to look like a woman than it does with wanting to feel pretty. Some trannies start off with CD but they move on to getting meds and possibly getting their dicks cut off.

Trapping is when you are not taking meds (very, very rarely when you are taking meds), can pass as a woman, and turn people on while doing it. An ugly guy can easily dress in fat woman clothes and pass as a fat, ugly woman. That's not the idea behind a Trap, that would fall between CD and being a Drag Queen.

In most cases, when you take meds you move beyond trap into the TS/TG area. Most people do not start transitioning when they are young, when they are most easily changed, and therefore they just turn into ugly trannies. The rare few that are young and feminine before transitioning and are still young and feminine after they start transitioning can be labelled as Traps but that doesn't happen as often, they are the current exception. I'm sure as time goes on and this becomes a more commonplace thing to do this will change. The difference in our sexes will be meaningless due to the ability to identify the want of the individual to transition at an earlier age and with the help of better methods of surgery.

Due to the nature of the internet, there's no way to verify how trappy a Trap is and so most camwhores who probably couldn't pass IRL can get away with it online. /tg/ has many more Traps than deserve the title, even now without IRL proof, but it's a fine line between hurt feelings and where the cut is made.

Some CDers think they are traps but in reality they are below even the title of CD. This is due to the title of CD being bestowed upon people who like to dress up in women's clothes. Not to pass as women the way a Trap would but to feel pretty or sexy or because they like the feel of the fabrics that mens clothes do not have.

All of this applies to women wanting to become male as well. We have had one gorgeous girl post her attempt at being a Reverse Trap. She suceeded in becoming an ugly guy. It was a bit sad because I think she said she wanted to transition. She truly was a beautiful girl.

Your leading OP to believe in fabricated rules and guidelines, restrictions and method. Take for example your statement about transition. For one, women of all ages are beautiful if they give a shit. Being a woman for a woman is rather difficult if they wish to be attractive no matter what age, ethnic background or social status. Being a guy that emulates a woman is way more difficult again regardless of genetics and race. A trap is a man that has become a woman. This could have been simply cross dressing or HRT. He had the desire to pass as a woman and did everything in his power to do it. When he gets it right he will look and feel just like a woman and feel confident.
Now, in the case of a friend I had come to know on /cd/, she transitioned at 30 and is now 33 or 34. Prior to being a woman, she was a mans MAN, complete with body builder tone and size. Now she is by far one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life.
I believe most make the mistake of seeing "youth" with "pass". Give a girl my boots for a day LOL. The sands of time sweep the fields for all... even this legendary TRAP in OPs post.

Transition is for life. In this prior post, there is mention of point A to point B through HRT but ANON never tells you that your masculine features are what they are at an early age and once it's in... that's pretty much it. I look the same way I did when I was 21 with the exception of smoker lines on the corner of my eyes and some on my crown. As a matter of fact, I'm only 120 lb's, 5'7" and somehow way more fem than when I was dressing up for Rocky Horror when I was JB.

As it was stated earlier, you can transition into an ugly woman just fine but you won't be a Trap. You'll just be an ugly woman.

It also helps that the majority of trannies are psychotic (otherwise they wouldn't be getting body parts mutilated) and so even when they do transition they exaggerate the new role they are playing (the way flaming faggots do), and have no fashion sense or any skill applying makeup to go with it. However I don't believe your opinion on transsexuals. I would have to admit that mant trannies do put on too much makeup and wear very lewd clothing, but the same would go with a born-Woman. I think the key difference here is intention. Traps want to pass as women (and not ugly ones), whereas crossdressers do it for their own pleasure.

I think anyone can pass if they set their mind to it. Hormones should only be necessary if you're trying to pass with little to no clothes.

As far as /tg/ goes, you kind of have to make it in /cdg/ or /tsg/ before being invited there.
